About The Position

This position works under the direction of the Maintenance Foreman at the Wastewater Treatment Plant within the Public Works Division. The role involves performing complex tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electromechanical machinery and equipment found in large volume wastewater treatment plants. The mechanic will dismantle or partially dismantle various equipment such as electric motors, turbines, engines, transmissions, hydraulic valves, meters, and gages to access and replace faulty parts. The role requires the use of various hand and power tools and involves periodic inspection, lubrication, and replacement of worn parts to prevent breakdowns. The individual must be able to interpret schematics and operation manuals and will also operate facilities' support equipment, including dump trucks, for transport to job sites across the city. The position operates with significant autonomy for unreviewed actions or decisions.

Responsibilities

• Perform more complex tasks in installing, maintaining and repairing mechanical and electromechanical machinery and equipment used in large volume wastewater treatment plants
• Dismantle, or partially dismantle electric motors, turbines, engines, transmissions, hydraulic valves, meters, gages, and other equipment to gain access to or remove faulty parts
• Use hand and power tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and hoists
• Repair or replace defective parts
• Inspect machine and equipment periodically
• Lubricate moving parts or replace worn parts to prevent breakdown or malfunctioning
• Interpret schematics and operation manuals to determine location, size, and type of parts
• Operate facilities’ support equipment such as dump trucks to and from job sites throughout the city as required
