About The Position

Abacus Technology is seeking a Maintenance Trades Helper to provide direct support to inside and outside plant technicians at Shaw AFB. This is a full-time position. The role involves hands-on work supporting installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications facilities and equipment across underground, aerial, buried, fiber, copper, and coax divisions.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience working in a similar role.
• Able to stand, walk, crawl, and work in varied environments, including on ladders, in attic spaces, on ceilings, in tunnels, on poles, and in trenches to access installation and construction points.
• Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions.
• Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices and procedures related to construction processes.
• Proficient in the use of hand tools.
• Familiar with current construction practices.
• Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget.
• Able to perform physically demanding tasks as needed.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
• Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be subject to a U.S. government security investigation.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with and support outside plant technicians and premise technicians.
• Assist in placing, rearranging, and removing poles, conduit, cable lines, open wire, drops, inside wire, and block wire.
• Perform installation and maintenance on outside plant equipment.
• Install fiber, coax, and copper lines and cables using hand tools and construction equipment.
• Work outside as part of a team to install, maintain, and repair facilities.
• Pull fiber, copper, and coax cable through existing duct packages and conduit, manually, by blowing, or mechanically.
• Lay cable, conduit, and fiber.
• Unreel, pull, and string wire and cable from pole to pole.
• Dig holes and restore landscaping.
