About The Position

Graphic Packaging International is a leading manufacturer of paper-based packaging for various consumer products. They are seeking candidates to join their Food Service folding carton manufacturing operation in Chicago, IL. This posting is for a Maintenance Technician role with a pay range of $34.09 to $41.18 per hour, plus shift differential and progressive pay increases. Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must have working knowledge of basic mechanical fundamentals.
  • Perform tasks per instructions.
  • Work well without supervision when needed.
  • Must have experience in identifying basic hand tools.
  • Prior maintenance/electrical experience necessary.
  • Minimum of four years hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of high-speed equipment.
  • Basic working knowledge of machine tools: drill presses, welders, grinders.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with all types of machinery involved in the folding carton industry.
  • Must have own tools needed to make mechanical and/or electrical repairs.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have physical coordination to operate a forklift (to remove and replace extremely heavy parts).
  • Must have the physical ability and coordination to operate machinery (Lathe, Grinder, Drill Press, Handsaw, etc.) used to make and repair parts.
  • Must have the physical ability and coordination to remove and replace parts from machinery.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must have visual acuity at short distance to examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must have working knowledge of basic mechanical fundamentals.
  • Perform tasks per instructions.
  • Work well without supervision when needed.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Printing industry experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and repairing all electrical devices within the plant.
  • Performing breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance on all production equipment, utilities, building/grounds, etc.
  • Completing parts requisitions, work orders, and time sheets in the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Disassembling defective electrical equipment, replacing defective or worn parts, and reassembling equipment.
  • Replacing all fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches within the facility.
  • Working independently and on teams.
  • Demonstrating safe work practices.
  • Using PLCs for routine troubleshooting.
  • Completing all associated paperwork.
  • Adhering to preventative/predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Reading and working from mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Following all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures related to the production of Safe Quality Foods.
  • Reporting any potentially unsafe conditions that may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures to a person of authority.
  • Participating in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions as required.
  • Following all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
  • Reporting any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
