About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for reading and interpreting equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance. This role involves providing emergency repairs on production equipment to keep lines operational at all times, performing scheduled maintenance and repairs of production equipment including replacement of failed components, and diagnosing problems and failures to repair or replace parts as required. The technician will also be responsible for disassembling/assembling defective machines and equipment and installing new or repaired parts, using specifications and/or blueprints, precision measuring instruments, and hand tools, as well as adjusting various types of devices and control systems. A strong understanding of facilities, systems, and component functions and relationships, along with competence in their troubleshooting and repair, is essential. Knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems (480v and below, and control voltage/systems) and basic hydraulics/pneumatics experience are required. Experience in a fast-paced, cold, wet production environment and the ability to collaborate well with production line workers and supervisors with a strong customer service mindset are also key.

Requirements

  • Ability to speak, understand, read and write in English.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge/skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
  • Ability to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.
  • Regularly required to move about the facility.
  • Standing/walking on concrete floors up to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week.
  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Standing, stooping, walking, bending, and climbing are all expected physical abilities, with or without accommodations.
  • Works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments.
  • Noise level usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.
  • Must be available to work scheduled weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Ammonia Refrigeration experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in an industrial maintenance capacity preferred.
  • Food or Medical plant experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), and food manufacturing best practices.

Responsibilities
