About The Position

The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Church in the Diocese of Fort Worth. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice. This is a part-time position, typically 20-24 hours weekly, with flexible shifts that may include weekend work, making it ideal for retirees or individuals looking for additional income. The role is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, set up, and repair of parish facilities and grounds, performing a variety of facility and equipment maintenance duties. This may include routine carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks based on skill level and experience.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have a valid State driver’s license.
  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and auto insurance meeting diocesan minimum requirements.
  • Experience with building, ground, and/or industrial maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of key building systems. (Electrical, Security, Septic, Lighting, HVAC, etc.)
  • Ability to diagnose and perform minor mechanical repairs
  • Good mechanical aptitude and familiar with construction
  • Ability to work from ladders, adjust to height and close quarters.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), building energy management systems and event scheduling systems, office practices, record keeping techniques, file practices
  • Knowledge of cleaning/janitorial equipment and supplies and their safe use and storage
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Must be personable and able to converse intelligently and work effectively with contractors, parishioners, and staff.
  • Ability to effectively lead and coordinate the activities of staff, contractors, and volunteers
  • Ability to complete minor repairs and be part of developing plans for major repairs.
  • Work with parish staff to identify ongoing maintenance concerns and any necessary preventative maintenance projects.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.

  • Skill in critical thinking and planning
  • Ability to work flexible hours and address emergency calls, including weekends and evenings on an as-needed basis. Ability to work in various climate conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Help with a variety of installations, repair and renovation to buildings including but not limited to electrical fixtures and switches, and semi-skilled tasks in construction, repair and maintenance of wooden structures and articles, painting.
  • Installation, repair, and renovation of some equipment including metal and wood equipment, electrical appliances, valves, gas stoves, hot water heaters, sinks, commodes, hand basins, kitchen appliances, heating and cooling systems, sewer lines, irrigation sprinklers.
  • Assist with coordination of volunteer groundskeeping resources for cutting and planting of lawns, trees, and shrubs, and watering and fertilizing of the same.
  • Moving and transporting furniture, books, and miscellaneous items within building and outer storage units. Set up/break down of tables/chairs as needed for classes, meetings, and overflow Mass.
  • Maintains daily work order maintenance logs and works reports which document the time and materials used to complete the project(s), preferably with computer software.
  • Assist with documentation of standard practices associated with key components of new facility (e.g., Electrical, Security, Septic, Lighting, HVAC Systems).
  • Removal of snow and ice from campus roadways, parking lots, ramps, and walkways.
  • Assist other areas related to overall maintenance of the campus and rectory.
  • Securely maintains a current work process binder for each major area of responsibility.
  • Secure and orderly storage of vendor, contractor, and contract records.
