Requirements

  • Must have the ability to obtain tickets in the following: TSSA GTAW and SMAW 6G in carbon steel pipe and stainless steel pipe; current certification will be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years welding experience working in a fabrication shop or field environment working on pressure vessels and piping; previous experience in a chemical plant maintenance role would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Stick, TIG, and MIG welding and experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Ability to operate torches, plasma cutters, Arc Air gouging equipment, grinders, and other hand and power tools
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of shop equipment such as overhead cranes, drill press, band saw, threading equipment, hydraulic press, plate shear, pan brake, plate roller and iron worker
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric and orthographic drawings, weld procedures, P&ID’s and pipe specifications
  • Must be competent in working at heights and confined space entry
  • Must have completed a minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Commitment to safety as the embodiment of corporate culture, responsibility and accountability
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required to support safe operations of the plant

Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs and activities
  • Work from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to measure, lay out, fit, weld, and fabricate piping, plate, and structural components in both shop and field environments using SMAW and GTAW procedures
  • Design and fabricate specialized tools, guards, brackets, platforms, valve handles, and equipment
  • Perform maintenance activities on heat exchangers, pressure vessels, boilers and tanks
  • Assist other trades in the Maintenance department including Pipefitters, Millwrights, Carpenters and Electricians
  • Lead contractor workforce during plant outages
  • Collaborate with Operations, Planning, Engineering, Inspection, Supervisors and Maintenance departments to troubleshoot failures, develop repair plans and execute work packages
  • Safely use hand and power tools, measuring instruments and other equipment required to complete assigned tasks
  • Utilize SAP to submit hours, add parts and document work order history
  • Responsible for proper daily housekeeping in the shop and in the field
  • Comply with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements for each task
  • Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Complete computer-based learning modules and assigned training within timelines
