About The Position

We are seeking a skilled, safety-conscious Maintenance Technician Lead to support our CNC machine shop operations as a working lead. This position performs hands-on preventative and corrective maintenance on CNC equipment, shop machinery, and facility systems, while also providing day-to-day direction, training, and mentorship to another maintenance department employee. The Maintenance Technician Lead is responsible for creating and maintaining Work Instructions (WIs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), tracking and reporting on maintenance KPIs, and ensuring adherence to safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout, MSDS organization, and safe forklift operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in maintenance, ideally in a CNC or precision machining environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and fluid power systems.
  • Experience creating or maintaining Work Instructions (WIs), SOPs, or similar documentation.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • technical certificate or trade school preferred
  • Experience servicing Haas and Brother machines a plus
  • 2 years lead or supervisory experience preferred
  • Electrical certification, apprenticeship, technical training, or equivalent hands-on electrical experience preferred.
  • Experience tracking and reporting on maintenance KPIs preferred.
  • Valid forklift operator certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • experience with CMMS/ERP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor other employees, providing hands-on training, guidance, and close day-to-day direction to team members who require additional support.
  • Assign daily tasks and prioritize repairs and preventive maintenance work based on production needs and deadlines.
  • Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and support skill development.
  • Serve as liaison between maintenance, production, quality, and engineering teams to prioritize repairs and improvements.
  • Create, maintain, and update Work Instructions (WIs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance tasks and CNC equipment servicing.
  • Develop, maintain, and report on maintenance KPIs (e.g., equipment uptime, PM compliance, mean time to repair) to the Plant Manager.
  • Enforce safety protocols and PPE usage on the team.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, uptime, and productivity, and contribute to lean manufacturing goals.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.) and shop support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues in CNC systems.
  • Repair and replace machine components including motors, sensors, belts, spindles, and valves.
  • Perform CNC control diagnostics (Fanuc, Haas, DMG Mori, etc.) and work with OEM technicians when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area.
  • Maintain and repair building systems: HVAC, lighting, plumbing, security, fire prevention, electrical, compressed air, and fire protection.
  • Ensure operation of facility support systems including coolant treatment, air compressors, and ventilation.
  • Conduct general facility repairs including painting, minor plumbing, carpentry, and janitorial coordination.
  • Follow and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all maintenance tasks involving energy sources.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and in accordance with training.
  • Support safety audits and ensure compliance with OSHA and internal safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and facility infrastructure.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, service records, and equipment manuals.
  • Track and manage spare parts inventory; order parts and supplies as needed.
  • Use Epicor ERP system to log work orders and inspection reports.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to lean manufacturing goals.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
