What We Need Facilities Services is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician II with a primary focus in plumbing to support the day-to-day operation of campus facilities. This is a full-time, in-person position based on SPU’s campus. The role includes preventive maintenance, repairs, and responsive service across a variety of campus buildings. While plumbing is the primary focus, this position also supports general building maintenance and cross-trained work across multiple trades. We’re looking for someone who is dependable, takes pride in their work, and enjoys being part of a team that keeps campus running smoothly. What You’ll Do General Maintenance & Campus Support Perform preventive maintenance and repairs in academic, residential, and administrative buildings Respond to work orders and service calls in a timely, customer-focused manner Support seasonal and campus-wide activities, including emergency response and snow removal Work collaboratively with other facilities staff to support safe and reliable building operations Plumbing & Water Systems Install, maintain, repair, and replace plumbing fixtures and systems (faucets, toilets, drinking fountains, water heaters, valves, piping, etc.) Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on sewer, drain, and stormwater systems Maintain and service campus irrigation systems, including startup and winterization Assist with backflow prevention testing, inspection, and repairs Equipment, Safety & Teamwork Safely use and maintain tools and equipment related to plumbing and general maintenance Inspect worksites and coordinate with supervisors to ensure safety and code compliance Participate in cross-training to support basic work in other trades (carpentry, electrical, doors/hardware, etc.) Contribute to a respectful and team-oriented work environment On-Call & Essential Operations Participate in a shared, rotating on-call schedule (approximately 7 weeks per year) Respond to urgent maintenance needs outside of normal business hours Support a variety of maintenance needs during on-call periods, with team support Serve as essential staff, including working during inclement weather or emergency closures

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in plumbing, facilities maintenance, or building systems work in commercial, residential, or institutional settings
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, follow instructions, and work independently or as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and ability to operate a service vehicle
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide responsive service
  • Willingness to learn and support multiple areas of maintenance
  • Ability to perform hands-on physical work, including lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, and working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on rooftops, and in changing weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Training or coursework in plumbing, facilities maintenance, or a related trade
  • Experience with building systems and applicable codes (plumbing, electrical, fire, etc.)
  • Experience operating equipment such as drain cleaning tools (jetter, large drain snake, etc.)
  • Experience in a campus, healthcare, hospitality, or similar institutional setting
  • Washington State Journeyman Plumber’s License (or working toward licensure)
  • Ability to obtain required certifications such as Asbestos Worker Certification (16-hour) and Lead Renovator Training (8-hour)
