About The Position

Achieve daily departmental goals, safety practices, and production while working together as a team. Skilled Maintenance Technician 2 is a highly skilled, experienced professional responsible for overseeing the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex manufacturing equipment and systems. This role involves leading and mentoring a team of technicians, performing advanced diagnostics, and developing strategies to improve the reliability and performance of production assets. The Skilled Maintenance Technician 2 plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of manufacturing processes by reducing downtime and enhancing equipment life cycles.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, or on call as needed.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in industrial manufacturing maintenance or equivalent.
  • Three years of shop mathematics and blueprint reading is essential.
  • Understand and develop Standard Operating Procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and basic control systems is a plus.
  • Maintenance Certificate Preferred
  • Active Employees must be currently holding a Skilled Maintenance LG 11 grade and successfully pass skills written and hand test (eligible employees may take the test no more than one (1) time per calendar year). The Company retains the discretion to allow new hires to test into LG 12.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation systems. Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and programming, VFDs, sensors, and control systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, able to perform deep-level analysis and resolve complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment (e.g., conveyors, motors, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatic systems).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and PLC-related issues in production equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair or replace faulty components (bearings, belts, sensors, wiring, etc.).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and suggest/implement solutions.
  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and request replacements as needed.
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to schedule maintenance and minimize disruptions to production schedules. Communicate effectively to ensure alignment of maintenance activities with production goals.
  • Lead and perform troubleshooting of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-controlled systems. Quickly diagnose and resolve critical issues to minimize downtime in the production process.
  • Oversee and manage the preventative and predictive maintenance program, ensuring that all equipment is maintained according to the schedule and company KPI standard. Use vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and other techniques to predict potential equipment failures before they occur.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train entry and mid-level maintenance technicians. Provide guidance on best practices, safety protocols, and complex troubleshooting tasks.
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, and calibration of new manufacturing equipment and systems. Provide technical input for improvements and upgrades to existing equipment and machinery.
  • Identify areas for improvement in equipment performance, maintenance procedures, and overall operations. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement process enhancements that reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, parts used, and machine performance. Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for tracking, reporting, and planning. Provide detailed reports and recommendations to management on equipment status, maintenance trends.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and local government regulations. Promote a culture of safety by conducting regular safety audits and ensuring the team follows safe work practices.
  • Perform safe work practices: Support, communicate, and drive Safety. Support and communicate utilization of applicable Personal protective equipment. Support and communicate Behavioral Based Safety. Identify safety hazards and collaborate/investigate with team to resolve. Sustains 6-S 360 principles throughout department.
  • Quality: perform and build quality parts/products to ensure specifications are met: Quality investigations 8D and 4 Block. Identify and collaborate/investigate with team to resolve non-conformances. Support corrective actions are identified and followed through.
  • Lean manufacturing principles: Participate and engage with 6S projects, 6S 360 and SMED events. Lead department 6S-360 projects. Train, communicate and follow work instructions. Ensure FIFO to keep the department inventory to recommended levels. Train new hires and job bid employees entering the department. Safety on the job. Quality at the source. Assess and document training competency of new learner to identify successes and/or deficiencies. Collaborate with Supervisor. Equipment – machines – operations – tools – 6S 360(keep work area clean and organized). Data entry – (i.e., production reporting, JDE, Lighthouse). Production expectations.
