About The Position

This part-time apprentice position gives students the opportunity to learn Old Dominion’s maintenance shop operations and company culture while attending school. The apprentice will learn to repair company equipment safely, promptly, cost-effectively, and practically, including preventive maintenance, general repairs, troubleshooting, and electronic diagnostics. The role also includes completing a project and presenting it at the end of the apprenticeship. Upon completion, the apprentice may be considered for future employment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently attending a Diesel Truck Maintenance Degree Program.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Willingness to learn maintenance shop operations and complete assigned projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Learn maintenance shop operations by shadowing team members in roles such as Maintenance Technicians, Parts Coordinators, Supervisors, and Managers.
• Learn to repair company equipment effectively and safely.
• Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and other breakdowns or failures in motor trucks and related equipment.
• Gain knowledge of precision instruments and electronic diagnostic tools, including micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, voltmeters, digital multimeters, and calibrators.
• When applicable, learn basic welding techniques and knowledge of metals for truck repairs.
• Gain a basic understanding of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations.
• Complete an assigned project and present it at the conclusion of the apprenticeship.
