The Supervisor-General Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities assets in addition to all general building maintenance within the service territory. This role involves ensuring the maintenance of all company property and facilities in a safe, functional, and attractive manner, and providing assistance to other departments. The incumbent will assign work to subordinates, select proper crews, and ensure the availability of necessary equipment. Safe work practices are paramount, and the candidate should be well-versed in Confined Space entry procedures, Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work Safety, work zone, and water safety. The role requires exercising judgment in rearranging priorities and reallocating duties to meet operational requirements during challenging circumstances such as inclement weather or equipment breakdown. The Supervisor will also oversee contracted services, property maintenance including landscaping, tree work, fence installations and repair, storm drain installations, service road and parking lot construction, and snow removal. This includes supervising shoreline rip-rap projects for erosion control, using pumps for flood control, maintaining fishing program areas, installing guard rails, posting signs, constructing walls, and managing debris burning. The department also handles brush or forest fires on the watershed. A key challenge is the effective resolution of emergencies at any time, requiring the provision of manpower, equipment, and supervision. The role supports reservoir treatment activities and maintains liaison with outside agencies and internal departments, including the Board of Health, Departments of Public Works, Cooperative Extension Service, Soil Conservation Service, County Mosquito Commission, and State Fish, Game and Wildlife Commission. The incumbent coordinates and supervises the spraying of pesticides for insect, weed, and brush control, requiring a Pesticide License and accumulation of credit hours. Support for corporate recycling/green initiatives and interaction with residents regarding watershed issues are also part of the role. Liaison with major contractors for projects outside departmental operations, such as landscape maintenance and fence work, is required, involving oversight and on-site inspections. Assistance is provided to other departments by supplying vehicles, pumps, gas mixers, and portable generators. Support is also given to the Engineering Department for land surveys, including brush removal, transportation for reservoir soundings, and installation of property markers. Staffing and support are provided to operations during times of exceptional system demands. Training programs on job duties and safety procedures are prepared and presented to subordinates. The department oversees and maintains compliance with backflow and cross-connection control programs. The incumbent serves on emergency duty to resolve operational problems at any time. Maintenance of oil and waste spill equipment, response to cleanup or containment requests, and assistance in preparing cost reports are required. The department also maintains equipment for disinfection of clear wells, tanks, and other structures, and performs disinfection procedures as requested. Equipment for treating water supply reservoirs for algae control is maintained, and chemical applications are made.
