About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the hands-on oversight of a maintenance team that safely and efficiently supports a 24/7 manufacturing environment. This role involves supervising a team of 12-20 employees, including Shift Mechanics, Tooling and Machinists, and Electro-Mechanics. Responsibilities are to be completed with consideration of safety, cost, efficiency, timeliness, and production of a quality product within specifications. This is a highly collaborative position requiring strong organizational, planning, follow-up, and communication skills.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working on and with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic manufacturing systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory position within a maintenance department.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to prioritize multi-task duties without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to disseminate information in a timely and diplomatic manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet scheduled deadlines, respond to emergency situations without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Demonstrates electro-mechanical skills and the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, return to service and maintain a variety of manufacturing and peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of and experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or diagrams including blueprints, schematics, and mechanical renditions.
  • Ability to identify, modify, adjust, and repair mechanical, electronic, hydraulic and/or pneumatic parts or equipment.
  • Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of standard manufacturing business processes.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of power and hand tools, as well as measuring and gauging equipment correctly and safely.
  • Proficient with general math skills, including fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with all Company policies and procedures and to uphold, support and exemplify the safety programs and standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the key components that comprise an effective plant wide safety program along with the ability to lead, develop and drive world class safety performance.
  • Work a Monday – Friday 8-hour schedule with overtime and/or flex scheduling as required.

  • Knowledge of plastics industry equipment, specifically extrusion and thermoforming a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee completion of work orders generated through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Schedule and assign work orders to maintenance team members based on skill level and priority to ensure maximum equipment reliability.
  • Ensure comprehensive and proper documentation for each work order through all phases up to and including completion.
  • Develop and lead training initiatives for mechanics in support of the pay-for-skills program.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance procedures and proactive maintenance programs like preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance.
  • Utilize the CMMS to identify and prioritize work orders, pre-plan and assign mechanics, generate work orders with comprehensive details, and ensure thorough documentation for equipment repairs and maintenance program updates.
  • Maintain compliance with preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Supervise a team of multi-craft mechanics, planning and assigning work based on individual skill level and training opportunities.
  • Track employees' work time, including timecards, attendance records, paid and unpaid time off requests, and coordinate for adequate shift coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, SPC, SQF, Safety, and Standards of Conduct policies and procedures.
  • Develop employees in support of the pay-for-skills program to ensure depth and breadth of skills and knowledge, as well as progression within the organization.
  • Assess the skill levels of all team members.
  • Conduct training for safety, process, quality, human resources, and company policies.
  • Inspect/audit the quality of performed maintenance work and provide feedback.
  • Actively discuss staff-related challenges with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Oversee the completion of all work orders and predictive and/or preventative maintenance needs.
  • Maximize equipment availability/reliability through the most effective use of the maintenance team.
  • Maximize operating value through appropriate delegation of responsibilities to the maintenance team and/or third-party contractors.
  • Complete all work responsibilities safely, efficiently, and effectively to achieve maximum reliability and significantly reduce or eliminate the need for “call backs”.
  • Ensure equipment is returned to original design capability.
  • Ensure prompt repair and/or proper steps are taken to quickly and effectively manage and respond to emergencies or unplanned breakdowns.
  • Lead and facilitate Tier 1 shift hand-off meetings.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assist in the execution, development, and maintenance of continuous improvement projects from conception through to implementation.
  • Participate and/or foster interdepartmental communication and teamwork.
  • Prioritize multi-task duties without loss of efficiency or composure.

  • Ensure storage and usage procedures of maintenance equipment, parts, tools, and supplies are completed in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF).
  • Maintain required records and documentation, as related to materials and supplies, for internal/external audit requirements including SPC, GMP, SQF and customer specific (Panda Express, Yum).
  • Ensure compliance and train employees on standard operational procedures in relation to SPC program, policies, procedures, and third-party GMP audits.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures and uphold, support, and exemplify safety programs and standards.
  • Understand the key components that comprise an effective plant-wide safety program along with the ability to lead, develop, and drive world-class safety performance.
  • Investigate, provide, and implement corrective measures for near misses and all safety incidents.
  • Minimize severity or frequency of accidents of contractors and maintenance personnel through risk identification process.
  • Ensure department compliance of all OSHA regulations including mandated safety programs and their training requirements.
  • Participate in safety audits and programs including but not limited to: New and Altered Equipment Review (NEAR), Machine Guarding, LO/TO, Electrical Safety, Contractor Safety, Confined Space, Walking and Working Surfaces, etc.
