About The Position

JBS Prepared Foods is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for their Belly Complex in Ottumwa, IA. This full-time position involves overseeing the general maintenance, both electrical and mechanical, of equipment used in the bacon manufacturing process. The role requires a blend of strategic and tactical responsibilities, focusing on ensuring the best products and services for customers and profitability for shareholders. The supervisor will work closely with Maintenance, Production, Safety, and QA teams to meet daily goals, implement schedules, and complete projects on time. Requirements

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written form in English.
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations.
  • Mechanical inclination and knowledge of job specifications.
  • 3 years of direct maintenance experience required.
  • Previous mechanical and related experience required.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

  • Industrial construction experience beneficial.
  • Previous supervisory experience highly preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the building, mechanical, and electrical trades.
  • Technical schooling with mechanical or electrical emphasis helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Safe Work practices.
  • Coordinates responsibilities and oversees the general maintenance, both electrical and mechanical, of equipment involved in the bacon manufacturing process, including injection, cooking, tempering, molding, slicing, and packaging equipment.
  • Works closely with Maintenance, Production, Safety, and QA to meet day-to-day goals.
  • Implements schedules to complete projects on time.
  • Performs skilled maintenance activities including construction, welding, brazing, soldering, plumbing, and hydraulics.
  • Monitors all production areas to ensure proper functioning of equipment and machinery.
  • Prioritizes work orders and schedules mechanics according to immediacy and necessity.
  • Adjusts, repairs, and replaces electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Participates in HAZMAT team to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
  • Promotes and encourages safety in all aspects of maintenance.
  • Arranges for completion of required paperwork, such as payroll.
  • Provides timely feedback to team members on progression through training.
  • Assists HR with maintaining accurate pay for hourly employees.
  • Coordinates maintenance employee responsibilities and oversees the mechanical aspects of equipment.
  • Responsible for correcting or facilitating correctible measures when downtime results from mechanical or technical defects.
  • Processes maintenance downtime reports for corporate and plant management.
  • Assigns work orders or special projects to maintenance employees.
  • Maintains department budget within specified guidelines, reviewing maintenance purchase requisitions and submitting for approval.
  • Conducts preoperational inspections and handles maintenance concerns of Production Supervisors to ensure operations begin as scheduled.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
