About The Position

The Maintenance Specialist supports the Contract Maintenance Department at Plant Miller, with a focus on daily contract maintenance planning and coordination. The role supports established metrics, outage planning, and project planning across all units. Maintenance strategy work includes developing job plans, administering preventive maintenance, supporting department processes, and developing procedures.

The position administers Maximo work management and develops work packages and plans for contract maintenance crews and outage work. It coordinates contractors, materials, equipment, and communications across work groups, while supporting safe work practices and consistent maintenance procedures. The role may involve travel within the Generation fleet and support during planned, maintenance, and forced outages, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Requirements

• Typically 5 or more years of relevant industrial maintenance and operations experience, with some experience planning and coordinating maintenance activities preferred.
• Knowledge of generating plant technology, maintenance, and operations related to major outages and routine activities.
• Strong organizational, administrative, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge and experience using personal computers, and ability to quickly learn software applications for work order management, planning and scheduling, and budgeting.
• Experience or knowledge with Maximo.
• Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing Southern Company's best interests.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Incorporate safety into operations and maintenance planning for all work activities.
• Work with LOTO coordinators to ensure equipment is properly tagged and matches Maximo equipment descriptions.
• Administer Maximo work order management by processing prioritized work orders, updating equipment records, and maintaining equipment history, including bills of materials.
• Develop and implement a Maximo planning process, including work packages for contract maintenance crews.
• Develop, update, and maintain contract maintenance procedures.
• Work with contractor leadership to improve productivity through detailed job plans, material procurement and staging, and effective communication among work groups.
• Develop outage work packages and plans for planned, forced, and maintenance outages for maintenance personnel and external contractors as required.
• Coordinate and oversee contract labor needs, including equipment rebuilds and parts refurbishment, and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Support the Maintenance Strategy program, including incorporating fleet-level job plans and comprehensive preventive maintenance work packages.
• Optimize and organize spare parts, materials, and equipment stocking levels and inventories, including management of obsolete inventory.
• Work with other Maintenance Specialists to maintain consistency in procedures, Maximo implementation, and outage planning.
• Support training on procedures and processes.
