About The Position

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising certified and non‑certified maintenance staff in a fast‑paced, unionized environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facility infrastructure, material handling equipment, and building systems. The incumbent oversees preventive and corrective maintenance activities, coordinates work assignments, interacts with external contractors, and actively promotes a strong safety culture across the maintenance function.

Requirements

  • Recognized mechanical or electrical trades certification valid in Ontario, or equivalent technical trade education.
  • Proven experience supervising employees in a maintenance or industrial environment.
  • Experience supporting automated crane and highbay storage, automated palletizers and material handling systems is a must.
  • Must be available to work all three shifts (Day, Afternoon and Night).
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, HVAC, and material handling systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access; Project and Visio are assets).
  • Experience using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent judgment, initiative, and a results‑oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively with skilled trades, front‑line operations, and leadership teams.

  • Experience working in a unionized environment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct maintenance staff, including skilled trades, schedulers, and support staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventive maintenance programs and work orders across electrical, electronic, mechanical, HVAC, material handling, and building systems.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure timely testing, repair, and restoration of systems.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of material handling systems, including automated conveyor, sorter systems, automated and semi-automated cranes, palletizers etc.
  • Interact with and coordinate external service providers and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, system documentation, and work orders using CMMS tools.
  • Review drawings, manuals, and technical documentation to support maintenance activities.
  • Ensure work is completed in compliance with OEM specifications, legislated standards, and safety regulations.
  • Promote, monitor, and reinforce a strong safety culture within the team and workplace.
  • Collaborate with peer supervisors and internal partners to ensure smooth facility and production operations.
  • Act as an incident commander on behalf of Maintenance Manager.
