Maintenance Repairer Master
About The Position
This is a District Wide Facility Maintenance position. Applicants with advanced carpentry / plumbing skills are encouraged to apply. The incumbent will work in rest areas within DOTD as well as other DOTD area units and facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Maintenance Repair Master, responsible for the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers in District 62. This position is located in Unit 701 in Hammond, Louisiana and reports directly to the Maintenance Foreman. Serves as team leader responsible for the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD-owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers. Coordinates and performs purchasing of materials and supplies in accordance with departmental policy and procurement requirements. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
Requirements
- Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
- Valid Chauffeur’s License (Class “D”) is required at time of appointment.
- Must possess a minimum lifting capacity of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities
- Serve as team leader responsible for the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD-owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers.
- Coordinate and perform purchasing of materials and supplies in accordance with departmental policy and procurement requirements.
- Participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
- Perform maintenance and rehabilitation work including constructing additions, renovating existing facilities, repairing and replacing roofs, and installing paneling, floor tile, ceramic tile, sheetrock, molding, cabinets, countertops, doors, windows, and vinyl siding.
- Install and repair door locks and window air-conditioning units.
- Perform concrete work including forming, pouring, and finishing concrete slabs and catch basins at DOTD facilities and right-of-ways.
- Complete framing for new construction and related structural repairs as needed.
- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems, including removal and replacement of fixtures such as commodes, faucets, urinals, water fountains, sinks, P-traps, supply lines, and cut-off valves.
- Repair water, sewer, and gas lines, and install heaters and associated ventilation systems.
