About The Position

The WAE Maintenance Repairer 1 supports Parking and Transportation Services by performing parking lot, roadway, signage, and general exterior maintenance throughout campus. This position works alongside the department's maintenance team to complete painting, striping, signage, traffic-control, and campus upkeep projects. The employee may work independently on routine assignments after receiving appropriate training.

Requirements

  • One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to successfully operate a two-way radio.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general parking lot and roadway maintenance, including measuring and marking parking spaces, travel lanes, curbs, crosswalks, and other designated areas.
  • Installs, removes, straightens, and replaces directional, regulatory, parking, and specialty signage.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting and striping using scrapers, blowers, brooms, shovels, pressure washers, weed trimmers, and other approved equipment.
  • Applies paint and pavement markings using striping machines, rollers, stencils, brushes, and spray equipment in accordance with university standards.
  • Inspects parking signage, pavement markings, curbs, traffic-control devices, and related equipment for damage, visibility, reflectivity, and overall condition.
  • Completes routine preventative maintenance on tools, field equipment, signage, and small-engine equipment.
  • Cleans and safely stores tools and materials after use.
  • Identifies and reports hazards, damaged infrastructure, obstructions, and other conditions that may affect pedestrian or vehicle safety.
  • Assists with the layout and installation of reflective and non-reflective pavement-marking materials used for crosswalks, stop bars, parking spaces, and other traffic-control markings.
  • Supports campus preparations for special events, student move-in, commencement, emergency operations, and other seasonal activities.
  • Places and removes barricades, cones, temporary signs, and other traffic-control equipment as directed.
  • Performs other duties and supports departmental projects as assigned.
