About The Position

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking a Maintenance Professional to join its Facilities Services team. This role is responsible for providing general maintenance and repair services for General Fund Buildings and campus properties, with the possibility of extending services to non-general fund buildings based on request, time, and financial considerations. The position requires excellent customer service skills for interacting with students, faculty, staff, and external customers. The workload is managed through a work request/work order system, predictive/preventive maintenance schedules, and specific projects. This role supports campus sustainable principles and practices. As essential personnel, the Maintenance Professional will be required to perform snow and ice removal during seasonal conditions and respond to other campus emergencies as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have progressively responsible experience in a maintenance, construction, or structural trades field related to the duties of the position (e.g., general maintenance, carpentry, painting, building repairs).
  • Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have demonstrated experience performing interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs, including tasks such as drywall, painting, carpentry, flooring, door and hardware repair, and installation of building components.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using a work order or computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document work, communicate with customers, and track materials is highly desired.
  • Previous experience in an Essential Personnel role is preferred.
  • Experience working in a higher education, government, healthcare, or large institutional facilities environment is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and effective communication is preferred.
  • Completion of trade-specific training or certifications relevant to general maintenance or structural trades is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine interior and exterior maintenance and repair services for General Fund Buildings and campus properties.
  • Performs work including, but not limited to, drywall installation/repair, painting, carpentry, tile repair/replacement, carpet repair/replacement, lock installation/repair, door repair/removal/installation, installing and maintaining building components such as office furniture, hanging cabinetry and boards, predictive/preventive maintenance, fabrication (metal and wood based) and assisting other departments and trade groups with other related tasks.
  • Conducts work in a safe manner.
  • Maintains and performs minor repairs on department equipment.
  • Drives department vehicles and uses appropriate equipment to support these activities.
  • Orders parts/materials from a supplier, works with the MAD Department to procure them, and notifies the customer that parts/materials are on order.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Effectively works with the internal team, the supervisor, and campus customers to plan and schedule work requests.
  • Independently makes necessary decisions and provides expertise to resolve issues and complete projects.
  • Communicates with customers using the work order system, phone, email, and face-to-face methods.
  • Generates cost estimates for customer maintenance and special project requests.
  • Independently completes Facility Condition Assessments on a yearly basis.
  • Inspects buildings daily to locate and identify maintenance issues that present a danger to students and staff.
  • Assists the campus locksmith with an ADA operator that is not functioning properly.
  • Inspects building exterior doors for any structural/security issues and reports findings to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Removes snow and ice when seasonal conditions require it.
  • Responds to other campus emergencies if needed/required.
