About The Position

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking a Maintenance Professional to join our Facilities Services team. This position is responsible for providing general maintenance and repair services for General Fund Buildings and campus properties, with the possibility of extending services to non-general fund buildings and properties. The role involves responding to work requests, performing preventive maintenance, and undertaking special projects. The Maintenance Professional will also provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and external customers, and is considered essential personnel, requiring participation in snow removal and emergency response. This role supports campus sustainable principles and practices.

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible experience in a maintenance, construction, or structural trades field related to the duties of the position (e.g., general maintenance, carpentry, painting, building repairs).
  • Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated experience performing interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs, including tasks such as drywall, painting, carpentry, flooring, door and hardware repair, and installation of building components.
  • Ability to stand and walk frequently.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, and use fine motor skills.
  • Ability to look at computer screens continuously for long periods of time.
  • Ability to talk and hear within the normal range.
  • Clarity of vision for 20 feet or more, depth perception, accommodation, and ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using a work order or computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to document work, communicate with customers, and track materials.
  • Previous experience in an Essential Personnel role.
  • Experience working in a higher education, government, healthcare, or large institutional facilities environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and effective communication.
  • Completion of trade-specific training or certifications relevant to general maintenance or structural trades.

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine interior and exterior maintenance and repair services for General Fund Buildings and campus properties.
  • Performs drywall installation/repair, painting, carpentry, tile repair/replacement, carpet repair/replacement, lock installation/repair, door repair/removal/installation.
  • Installs and maintains building components such as office furniture, cabinetry, and boards.
  • Conducts predictive/preventative maintenance.
  • Performs fabrication (metal and wood based).
  • Assists other departments and trade groups with related tasks.
  • Conducts work in a safe manner.
  • Maintains and performs minor repairs on department equipment.
  • Drives department vehicles and uses appropriate equipment.
  • Orders parts/materials from suppliers and works with the MAD Department to procure them.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Effectively works with the internal team, supervisor, and campus customer to plan and schedule work requests.
  • Independently makes necessary decisions and provides expertise to resolve issues and complete projects.
  • Communicates with customers using the work order system, phone, email, and face-to-face methods.
  • Generates cost estimates for customer maintenance and special project requests.
  • Independently completes Facility Condition Assessments on a yearly basis.
  • Inspects buildings daily to locate and identify maintenance issues that present a danger to students and staff.
  • Assists campus locksmith with ADA operator issues.
  • Inspects building exterior doors for structural/security issues and reports findings to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Responds to emergencies on campus related to loss of power, fire, flooding, HVAC breakdowns, or safety and security actions.
  • Participates in seasonal snow removal and ice mitigation using hand and motorized devices.
  • Drives trucks and other snow removal vehicles as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Meets a minimum of 16 hours of trade-specific training annually.
  • Attends meetings, training sessions, and other developmental activities as requested or assigned.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and membership in related professional organizations.
