About The Position

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for purchasing maintenance parts and for planning, organizing, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime. This position works closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Procurement, outside vendors, and contractors to ensure maintenance work is thoroughly planned, properly coordinated, and executed safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Planner actively supports preventive and predictive maintenance programs, Maintenance Excellence initiatives, the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and continuous improvement efforts that enhance overall equipment reliability. Requirements

  • Technical schooling, a college diploma, an associate degree, or specialized training in a maintenance-related field.
  • At least two years of industrial maintenance, maintenance planning, or related experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Industrial mechanical maintenance, Industrial electrical maintenance, Millwright work, Multi-craft maintenance.
  • Experience using a CMMS such as SAP PM, Maximo, eMaint, MVP, or a similar system.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and Reliability-Centered Maintenance principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, OEM manuals, equipment documentation, and maintenance job scopes.
  • Experience supporting maintenance operations in a 24/7 manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong communication, planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Technical credibility needed to work effectively alongside maintenance technicians and engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years of technical education or specialized maintenance training.
  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Scheduler, Lead Technician, or in a similar role.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), or Maintenance Excellence initiatives.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and maintenance improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with spare-parts management, inventory control, purchasing, and procurement processes.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase all maintenance parts, supplies, tools, and services.
  • Plan and organize maintenance work in a timely and structured manner.
  • Develop daily and weekly schedules for preventive, predictive, corrective, and planned maintenance.
  • Prioritize preventive and predictive maintenance activities within maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and external contractors.
  • Plan and coordinate scheduled downtime to maximize equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Convert emergency and reactive maintenance work into planned activities whenever practical.
  • Communicate maintenance schedule changes, equipment status updates, and planned downtime requirements.
  • Attend daily production, scheduling, and maintenance planning meetings.
  • Develop comprehensive maintenance job plans that include: Required preparation work, Labor requirements, Parts and materials, Required documentation, Tools and equipment, Safety procedures and applicable permits, Equipment shutdown, closeout, and startup activities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and reduce health and safety risks associated with maintenance activities.
  • Ensure job plans include the appropriate safety procedures, permits, and required controls.
  • Support the safe execution of maintenance activities and scheduled shutdowns.
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance task lists and frequencies within the CMMS.
  • Ensure production equipment spare-parts information is accurate and current within the CMMS.
  • Identify required parts and verify availability before scheduled work begins.
  • Manage maintenance inventory in partnership with the maintenance team.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and purchase orders for parts, tools, and contracted services.
  • Continuously improve CMMS data quality and system effectiveness.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance programs effectively reduce equipment failures and unplanned downtime.
  • Monitor, track, and publish performance measures, including maintenance backlog and schedule compliance.
  • Collaborate with technicians to define job scope, work methods, resource requirements, and execution plans.
  • Participate in scheduled shutdowns, maintenance outages, improvement projects, and major maintenance work.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, cost reduction, and Maintenance Excellence.
  • Coordinate external contractors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and specialty service providers.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Procurement, the storeroom, outside vendors, and other departments.
  • Work effectively alongside maintenance technicians and engineering teams.
