About The Position

This position is responsible for managing work priority, developing job plans, defining parts and materials, and engaging the proper resources to develop a safe, effective, and efficient work control plan. The Maintenance Planner reviews work requests with the Manager for accuracy and clarity, ensuring proper scope, completion dates, lead times, and authorization. They obtain and organize all necessary information for crafts to perform approved work, including drawings, manuals, and procedures, and may create additional instructional materials. The role provides equipment-related expertise and technical guidance for improving Preventive Maintenance activities and equipment. The Maintenance Planner determines and identifies any vendor-delivered services required for work orders, verifies the availability of materials, information, tools, and labor before scheduling, and is responsible for the effective utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) and other tools to manage work controls, backlogs, and metrics. They manage the status of work control and backlog from submission to completion, provide job estimates, and create total cost estimates for work. The position follows up with Maintenance and Operations Team Leads to ensure timely submission of completed job packets with improvement comments and updates job packets as required. The Maintenance Planner creates reports and tracks metrics identified by the Manager, and manages service visits and inspections with contractor services. Requirements

  • High School graduation plus 5 years of maintenance experience or experience purchasing and scheduling maintenance in a manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have adequate craft knowledge and skill to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirement and skills needed to complete a job. Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work.
  • Should have good written and verbal communications skills and have demonstrated the ability to be approachable and tactful.
  • Good math skills and computer skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and provide simple and accurate instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to read standard blueprints, machine and process drawings. Have the ability to sketch or redline existing drawings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the maintenance process and proper use of the work order system, planning and scheduling and storeroom processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects simultaneously and keep them progressing to completion.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience scheduling multi-shift / multi-craft tasks is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage work priority, develop job plans, define parts and material, define crafts and skills and engage the proper resources to develop a safe, effective and efficient work control plan.
  • Reviews work requests with Manager for accuracy and clarity: clear scope of work, realistic completion date, proper lead times, correct equipment identification, proper authorization, and discuss details with originator of the work order.
  • Obtain and organize all information required for the crafts to perform the approved work: drawings, vendor manual, supplemental instructional materials, special procedures, and other file material which is appropriate. Supplement this information by preparing any additional sketches, drawings, diagrams, notes, or any instructional material which will clarify the work to be performed.
  • Provides the equipment-related expertise and technical guidance on improving Preventive Maintenance activities and equipment improvements.
  • Determine and identify any vendor delivered service for the work order. (i.e., contract vibration service or machining house).
  • Verifies all material, information, tools and labor are available prior to scheduling.
  • Responsible for effective utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management Software and other related best practices tools to manage work controls, backlogs, and metrics.
  • Manage the status of work control and backlog for work order submission to work order completion. Status may include: waiting for planning, waiting parts, ready to schedule, scheduled, etc.
  • Upon request provide job estimates based on craft or skills required, sequence required and number required.
  • Provide a total cost estimate for the work to be performed: labor, material, and outside services.
  • Follow up with Maintenance Team Leads and Operation Team Leads to ensure that completed work job packets (PM sheets) are turned in with improvement comments in a timely fashion.
  • Updates Job packets (PM sheets) as required for the files.
  • Create reports and track metrics identified by Manager.
  • Manages service visits and inspections with Contractor services (HVAC, waste disposal, mechanical needs, air/water/electrical, etc.)
