About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining food processing and packaging machines, mechanical/utility equipment, buildings, and office facilities within a USDA production environment. This role ensures the safe and dependable operating condition of all equipment and contributes to maintaining compliance with city and fire regulations. The position also involves assisting in coaching and training personnel, fabricating parts, and modifying equipment as needed, while upholding SQF Food Safety Code requirements.

Requirements

  • Good language skills (verbal & written) to interpret procedures, comprehend instructions, and to communicate effectively with others.
  • Self-motivated, a self-starter and self-directed to work without close supervision in a team environment.
  • Hard working, dependable, safety and quality conscious.
  • Proper and safe use of hand and power tools, and working on machinery.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic experience in a food (USDA or FDA) manufacturing environment.
  • Available to work any shift, as required.
  • Proficiency in Mechanical Troubleshooting Skills.
  • Proficiency in 120/208/240/480 Voltage Systems.
  • Proficiency in Electrical Troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Pneumatics Troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Industrial Electrical Experience.
  • Proficiency in Equipment Diagnostics & Troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work as assigned while adhering to established standards associated with workmanship and safety.
  • Responsible for the safe and dependable operating condition of all equipment in the facility.
  • Set-up, troubleshoot and repair of stacking, bagging, check-weighing, UPC bar coding, case erectors and conveyor equipment.
  • Dismantling and re-assembly of equipment to perform repairs, cleaning and lubrication according to established maintenance schedules.
  • Testing, troubleshooting and repair of 110/230/460 volt electrical equipment including motors, starters, relays, timers, panels, breakers, conduit and wiring.
  • Read and interpret Electrical Control schematics for trouble shooting purposes.
  • Minor programming and troubleshooting of VFD’s and PLC’s.
  • Understand and adhere to established safety programs (e.g., lock out/tag out, ladder safety).
  • Communicate effectively at all levels in the maintenance and operating departments.
  • Provide rapid response when equipment malfunctions or breaks down.
  • Ensure that all the equipment is ready prior to production.
  • Ensure the building is maintained in compliance to city and fire regulations.
  • Assist in coaching and training of maintenance and operating personnel.
  • Fabricate parts and modify equipment as required.
  • Uphold, follow and maintain the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing.

Benefits

  • Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
  • Expected hours: 48 per week
