About The Position

Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul trucks, buses, construction equipment, and all types of diesel engines. This role requires the ability to work within precise limits to standards of accuracy, apply shop mathematics, plan work, select proper tools, and visualize solid objects from drawings or diagrams. The position also involves working at heights without fear and performing tasks that require constant standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and fingering.

  • Capable of certifying on forklifts, aerial lifts and lulls (Light Equipment Operator).
  • Capable of certifying on all equipment up to 60 ton cranes and on dirt equipment, such as dozers, track hoes, backhoes, dump trucks, yard dogs, bobcats and excavators (Medium Equipment Operator).
  • Capable of certifying on all equipment but specializes in 60 ton and above for cranes (Heavy Equipment Operator).

Responsibilities

  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, hammers, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Practices safe hoisting and jacking techniques. Practices safe use and disposal of solvents.
  • Using micrometers and gauges inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to examine parts for damage or excessive wear. Replaces part as needed.
  • Replaces defective engines or subassemblies, such as transmissions.
  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Test drive trucks, buses and overhauled equipment to diagnose malfunctions and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.
  • Attach test instruments to equipment, and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps and compressors.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Performs other duties as required.
