The Maintenance Mechanic Internship provides college-level and CTE students, as well as veterans transitioning into technical careers, with hands-on experience maintaining and supporting wastewater treatment operations. Interns work alongside skilled maintenance mechanics and plant operators to assist with mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and field operations that help keep community infrastructure running efficiently. The internship is intended for students in community college, career technical education, or trade school programs focused on industrial maintenance, water technology, environmental services, or mechanical systems. Interns develop practical skills in maintaining, inspecting, and repairing water and wastewater equipment; learn about safety standards, confined-space awareness, and job hazard analysis; and gain experience using basic hand tools, diagnostic devices, and measurement instruments in a controlled environment. The program also introduces career opportunities in utilities, public works, and environmental operations. The internship is a paid, 100-hour opportunity scheduled for February 16 through April 18, 2027, two days per week, in Victorville, California. College credit will be available through Victor Valley College if selected. Work includes indoor mechanical shop settings and outdoor fieldwork in active treatment facilities. Tasks involve light physical activity, standard tools, and exposure to industrial operations. All work is supervised by certified staff and conducted within OSHA safety guidelines.
