About The Position

This role is responsible for performing maintenance tasks within the Board Maintenance department. The Maintenance Mechanic will ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping rules, become familiar with the plant's work order system, and utilize various tools and equipment for repairs. The position requires teamwork, active participation in safety and continuous improvement initiatives, and adaptability to scheduling requirements, including potential shift work and overtime. The Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing equipment such as bearings and reducers, performing welding and fabrication, and servicing heavy equipment. Maintaining regular attendance and understanding verbal and written instructions are also key aspects of this role. The employee will be responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as specified in the operator rate program.

Requirements

  • A strong mechanical background is preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience in performing service work on heavy equipment up to but not limited to loaders, dozers, backhoes, dump trucks, and lifts of any configuration.
  • Willingness to work the assigned schedule.
  • Consistently demonstrate an understanding of all plant & departmental safety rules, standards, and programs.
  • Meet the essential physical requirements of the position. Negotiate steps and ladders.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Have ability to understand verbal and written instructions from plant supervision and efficiently and effectively perform assigned tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as specified in the operator rate program.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance with all safety and housekeeping rules.
  • Become familiar with plant work order system.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, cranes/hoist, rigging equipment, welders, fall restraint, etc.
  • Work as part of a team, communicating and cooperating to achieve the required results.
  • Take an active role in all plant safety and continuous improvement initiatives as required by supervision.
  • Adaptable to scheduling requirements including shiftwork, assignment of overtime, working weekends, etc. where applicable.
  • Diagnose and repair bearings, reducers, and other equipment.
