About The Position

Xcel Energy is looking to fill one Maintenance Apprentice (1st - 4th Year) or Maintenance Mechanic Journey Worker position for Jones Station in Lubbock, TX. This role involves troubleshooting, constructing, and maintaining plant equipment such as turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, and cooling towers. The employee will actively participate in hands-on training, classroom training, and computer interactive training programs, with the goal of successfully completing a 4-year apprentice program and qualifying for Maintenance Journeyman. Travel to other locations may be required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Maintenance Positions Selection Systems (MASS) test
Able to lift 50 pounds
Valid driver’s license
Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
Must take Base line Audiogram
Completion of a 4-year apprentice program (for Journey Worker)
External candidates only: Journeyman may be required to take and successfully score on an Xcel Energy written and practical exam.

Nice To Haves

Welding experience and/or certification preferred
Troubleshooting experience preferred
Minimum of one-year industrial maintenance experience desired.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, construct and maintain plant equipment (turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, cooling towers, etc.).
Actively participate in hands-on training, required classroom training and computer interactive training programs.
Successfully complete a 4-year apprentice program and qualify for Maintenance Journeyman.
Respond to overtime and call outs.
Commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
