About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking to fill one Maintenance Apprentice (1st - 4th Year) or Maintenance Mechanic Journey Worker position for Jones Station in Lubbock, TX. This role involves troubleshooting, constructing, and maintaining plant equipment such as turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, and cooling towers. The employee will participate in hands-on training, classroom training, and computer interactive training programs. Successful completion of a 4-year apprentice program is required to qualify for Maintenance Journeyman. Travel to other locations may be necessary. The work environment includes exposure to energized/rotating equipment, confined spaces, vibrating equipment, heights, noise levels requiring ear protection, chemical fumes, lead and dust requiring respirator use, and a wide range of ambient temperatures. Employees will work off ladders and scaffolding, in elevated positions, and may handle hazardous materials. The job requires walking, climbing stairs and ladders throughout the plant, and working on gravel, concrete, and uneven surfaces.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Maintenance Positions Selection Systems (MASS) test.
Must respond to overtime and call outs.
Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
Able to lift 50 pounds
Valid driver’s license
Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
Must take Base line Audiogram
Completion of a 4-year apprentice program (for Journey Worker)
External candidates only: Journeyman may be required to take and successfully score on an Xcel Energy written and practical exam.

Nice To Haves

Welding experience and/or certification preferred
Troubleshooting experience preferred
Minimum of one-year industrial maintenance experience desired.

Responsibilities
