About The Position

As an Apprentice Line Worker, you will be taught a very rewarding career in constructing, maintenance, removal and storm restoration of high voltage distribution and transmission lines. Xcel Energy has a very reputable Department of Labor certified apprentice program that is recognized throughout the United States. This position will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations. Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date.
Successfully taken the EEI CAST Assessment
Totally committed to safety, quality work and customer service
Able and willing to respond to after hour and weekend call outs
Mentally competent, able to communicate and able to comprehend instructions and build on previous experience
Exhibit a teamwork attitude and be able to work with others
Pass the federal DOT physical examination
Complete all questions in application and upload a resume for consideration.
Reside within 20 miles of the Carlsbad Service Center

Responsibilities

Construction, maintenance and operations of high voltage distribution and transmission lines.
Supports maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.
Attending 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools.
Responding to after hour and weekend call outs.
Potentially traveling for extended time periods.
Lifting and maneuvering up to 90 lbs.
Climbing wood poles up to 100' tall.
Performing aerial work in a safety belt in a safe and efficient manner.
Using shovels, sledgehammers and 90 lb. jack hammers.
Working in confined areas.
