This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing all equipment and company assets while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures. The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. General Mechanic positions could involve working in any department of this beef processing facility. Activities such as standing, walking, bending, stretching, climbing heights as high as 50 feet or more, pushing, pulling, and reaching are required in all areas. Candidates must be able to climb up and down stairs and ladders. Additionally, lifting heavy objects, 70 pounds or more, is necessary. These positions may entail working in cold, damp, hot, and humid environments, ranging from 30 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Mechanical aptitude is essential, and welding experience is preferred. Candidates must enter work orders into a computer-based system daily. As part of the maintenance program, individuals will also be required to read manuals as needed to work on assigned equipment. Maintenance crews typically work 4-5 days with 2-3 days off, and shifts may include Sundays and some major holidays. Former Tyson employees are subject to a 180-day waiting period for rehire and a limit of three times for rehire.
