The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for supporting all production/facility equipment during normal operation, performing preventive maintenance on all equipment, and maintaining facility in top condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Must be certified to operate forklifts and aerial lifts.
  • Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawn mowers and small hand tools.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, plumbing and other systems.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices.
  • Manual dexterity and problem solving skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and evaluates all mechanical aspects of the building.
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; and examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; and monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts as necessary.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information including but not limited to daily forklift inspection sheets and monthly building maintenance checklists.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Supports and attends the safety committee meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
