About The Position

This role involves the daily inspection and maintenance of building components and equipment across assigned areas. The Maintenance Mechanic Sr will perform comprehensive preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems and structural components. This position also involves responding to requests, troubleshooting problems, and assisting other mechanics. Key duties include inspecting mechanical and structural components for operational readiness and safety, making necessary repairs, and preparing reports on daily operations and project status. The role also requires maintaining logs, charts, and service manuals, estimating time and materials, and reporting deficiencies. Ensuring adequate supplies and maintaining a clean work area are also essential. The position may involve assisting journey-level trades personnel, performing duties in other maintenance areas, and working during vacations, weekends, or emergencies.

Requirements

  • Four years related work experience.
  • Three years of which must have been in the trade area where assigned.
  • General knowledge of and skill in a variety of semi-skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques used in the trade areas where assigned.
  • General knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade areas.
  • General knowledge and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Skill in inspection and making adjustments, repairs and replacements to building fixtures and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned work.
  • Ability to apply quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to complete logs and prepare records and reports.
  • Ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet.
  • Ability to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies and/or exert for up to 70lbs.
  • Ability to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to work in hazardous or irritation environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions.
  • Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
  • Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license is required.
  • Candidates selected for employment may be required to be trained to work with asbestos.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Daily inspection of all building components and building equipment in all buildings within the assigned areas.
  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems and structural components of buildings and equipment.
  • Respond to all related requests and troubleshoot problems.
  • Assist area maintenance mechanics on tasks as required.
  • Inspect mechanical and structural components to ensure operational readiness and safety of related equipment and determine repairs.
  • Make necessary repairs to all building components and systems and obtain assistance from senior personnel when necessary.
  • Prepare recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
  • Complete and update logs, charts, and service manuals.
  • Prepare estimates of time and material required on assigned tasks.
  • Report deficiencies and safety problems to senior personnel.
  • Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained in assigned areas.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the area where assigned.
  • Clean work area upon completion of assignment.
  • Assist journey level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist in new construction and renovations work.
  • Serve in other maintenance areas performing maintenance duties as required, or during vacations, weekends or emergencies.
