About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic performs repair and preventative maintenance work on industrial equipment including gas, diesel and mobile equipment. This role involves diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems and performing safety compliance inspections. The position also includes assisting in departmental housekeeping and safety efforts, ordering necessary parts for inventory, and collaborating with equipment repair mechanics, production counterparts, and vendors to ensure production workflow. Individuals in this position operate, work with and are around large industrial equipment. Training is provided and duties are routinely carried out under close supervision; however, close supervision is not always available for routine and repetitive tasks, and these tasks can be carried on without difficulty once they are learned. As work experience is gained, employee may be assigned to more advanced tasks that include more responsibility.

Requirements

  • Competent with the use of PC, email, text messaging, internet research, and software-based maintenance.
  • Must have all aspects of communications skills; interpersonal, written and verbal, for dealing with all levels of associates, and for writing reports, and reading instructions and parts manuals.
  • Fluid Power (pumps, valves, and pneumatics, and seals) repair and maintenance.
  • Power transmission (bearings, brakes, clutches, drives, and lubrication) repair and maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting Hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Use of precision measuring equipment.
  • Use of test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to secure power and lock out equipment for maintenance procedures.
  • Listening to what production counterparts are saying and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Managing one's own time and taking initiative.
  • Able to follow directions and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in teams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency protocols as they pertain to daily duties.
  • Hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, some electrical skills are necessary.
  • The ability to read schematics and plans.
  • Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, with or without vision aid.
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point).
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
  • Ability to adjust visual focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Distance vision (clear vison at 20 feet or more).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating large industrial equipment.
  • One to two years’ experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair and preventative maintenance work on industrial equipment including gas, diesel and mobile equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems.
  • Perform safety compliance inspections.
  • Assist in departmental housekeeping and safety efforts.
  • Order parts required to maintain repair part inventories.
  • Work collaboratively with equipment repair mechanics, production counterparts, and vendors to ensure production workflow.
  • Evaluate work environment for safe working conditions prior to any work being performed.
  • Responsible for Lockout and Arc Flash procedures.
  • Communicate with the maintenance supervisor, affected employees, plant leadership and maintenance mechanics on downtime, equipment issues, repair ETA’s, and parts and supply needs.
  • Maintain and improve department lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair power transmission systems such as motors, gear reducers, couplers and precision shaft alignments.
  • Start and test equipment or machinery before returning it to production.
  • Work closely with maintenance technician.
  • Assist in the company's Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Read precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, caliper, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Assist other mechanics in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
