Maintenance Mechanic 1 (MM1) - Chehalis
About The Position
The Department of Children, Youth, and Families is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 1 to perform a variety of semi-skilled sub-journey work at Green Hill School in Chehalis, Washington. The position supports the maintenance, repair, remodeling, alteration, and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. The role also performs skilled work under the direction of a journey-level tradesperson. The position requires at least two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work, as well as a current Washington State driver’s license and at least two years of driving experience. Applicants selected for an interview must pass a national fingerprint background check and complete a questionnaire mandated by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
Requirements
- Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
- A current Washington State driver’s license.

- Knowledge of practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanical trades, including safety precautions.
- Ability to work from verbal descriptions, blueprints, construction drawings, plans, and sketches.

- Ability to communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public as needed to carry out assigned duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform minor repairs on building fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry and kitchen equipment, motors, and electrical appliances.
- Perform semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, welding, metal fabrication, steam fitting, electrical, mechanical, and machinist work.
- Perform skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, steam fitting, electrical, mechanical, and machinist work under the direction of a journey-level tradesperson.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment as needed.
- Operate mowers and grounds equipment, and vehicles to transport supplies and equipment.
