About The Position

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all day‑to‑day maintenance operations for a higher education campus, ensuring safe, reliable, and well‑maintained facilities that support academic, residential, and administrative functions. This role leads skilled trades staff, manages preventive maintenance programs, coordinates work with vendors and contractors, and partners closely with campus stakeholders to deliver high‑quality service in a student‑centered environment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent practical experience in facilities management, engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of maintenance or facilities management experience, including supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
  • Experience using CMMS or work order management systems.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a customer‑focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a team of maintenance technicians, supervisors, and/or skilled trades.
  • Plan, assign, and prioritize daily work orders to meet service level expectations.
  • Ensure coverage for academic buildings, residence halls, athletic facilities, dining spaces, and administrative offices.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and continuously improve the preventive maintenance (PM) program across campus facilities and infrastructure.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and general building maintenance.
  • Utilize CMMS systems to track work orders, asset history, PM schedules, and labor utilization.
  • Serve as the primary maintenance contact for campus leadership, facilities departments, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students regarding maintenance activities and service impacts.
  • Participate in campus meetings and respond to escalations or critical issues with professionalism and urgency.
  • Assist with budget planning, cost controls, and forecasting for maintenance operations.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including scope definition, performance monitoring, and invoice review.
  • Support minor capital projects, renovations, and shutdowns as assigned.
  • Ensure all work meets institutional standards, codes, and contractual requirements.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintenance best practices.
  • Support emergency preparedness, on‑call coverage, and response to after‑hours incidents.
