About The Position

The Stratford Festival, a world-renowned repertory theatre company based in Stratford, Ontario, is seeking a Maintenance - Lead Hand. This role is crucial to the Facilities team and reports to the Head of Maintenance. Requirements

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job (regular light to moderate lifting and carrying, plus heavy lifting (up to 50lbs))
  • Elevated Work Platform and working at heights training
  • Pallet training
  • Ability to operate equipment and use proper tools within the category of duties
  • Comfort in working at heights
  • Supervisory training (as provided by Stratford Festival) or equivalent experience
  • Teamwork: readily work with others towards a shared goal, actively support teammates and recognize everyone’s contributions
  • Diplomacy: show discretion and tact in dealing with a variety of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assignment and coordination of the daily work activities of the Maintenance staff working on the assigned shift, in accordance with the guidelines established by the Head of Maintenance.
  • Work at heights to complete tasks noted above both interior and exterior which may include elevated work platforms, ladders over 6 feet, and lifts.
  • Prepare floors using appropriate equipment.
  • Deliver packages, boxes, supplies, etc. to appropriate departments or storage areas. This may include the use of manual or power equipment for material handling.
  • Move office furniture or heavier equipment, inventory, furniture etc.
  • Remove snow/ice from exterior entry and exits using a shovel. Use sand and de-ice product as necessary.
  • Assist and provide training, methods and guidance to Maintenance Cleaner staff towards their duties.
  • Reassign work tasks or locations to both Maintenance Cleaner and Custodian as needed to respond to changing operational needs on shift.
  • Ensure that work completed is in accordance with Festival health & safety and operational standards.
  • Coordinate and assist room set ups and moves on the assigned shift.
  • Cover Head of Maintenance position when absent.
  • Communicate regularly with Head of Maintenance on the upcoming workload, events and planning, and report back on.
