About The Position

The City of Saratoga Springs is seeking a Maintenance Worker III or IV for the Parks division within the Public Works Department. This is a full-time position of approximately 40 hours per week. The role involves skilled work in landscape maintenance, upkeep of city parks, streetscapes, park facilities, and other city properties. The employee will also serve as an on-call responder for after-hours emergencies related to their area of responsibility and for snow plowing. This position will act as a lead worker for assigned Seasonal Maintenance - Parks employees, providing on-site direction for tasks and projects. The work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor – Parks and the Parks Superintendent, with general direction from the Public Works Director and the City Manager.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) years previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field (for Maintenance Worker III).
  • Six (6) years previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field (for Maintenance Worker IV).
  • Must possess a valid Utah CDL class A Driver's License, with a Tanker endorsement or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of park maintenance.
  • Knowledge of modern landscape maintenance and care methods.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and applications.
  • Knowledge of correct use of the English language and vocabulary.
  • Ability to interact with the public in all situations while maintaining a professional, pleasant, and courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to follow City policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain records and task lists.
  • Ability to operate moderate to heavy equipment needed for maintenance duties.
  • Ability to review and interpret basic to moderately difficult building and construction plans for public utility systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of turf management, including mowing, line trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, herbicide spraying, overseeding, and sod replacement using various equipment and techniques.
  • Provide care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers, including planting and proper pruning.
  • Inspect City parks, playgrounds, and facilities to identify maintenance and care needs.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • Repair and install irrigation systems.
  • Remove graffiti and repair vandalism of City property.
  • Clear snow from park sidewalks, city walkways, and assist in snow removal for City streets and facilities.
  • Perform maintenance on snow removal equipment.
  • Undertake winter projects.
  • Schedule and monitor irrigation systems on city property.
  • Provides front-line supervision to Seasonal Maintenance Workers - Parks on a project-by-project basis as assigned.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work of assigned Seasonal Maintenance Workers - Parks, and monitors work progress and employee performance for accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Reports any concerns to Maintenance Supervisor – Parks and/or Parks Superintendent.
