About The Position

The City of Anoka is proud to employ on average 115 benefit-earning employees, 50+ part-time employees, 100+ seasonal and 40 paid-on-call firefighters to staff our various departments. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance on streets, storm sewers, the dam, parks, playgrounds and other City property. Serve as Maintenance II, responsible for routine maintenance on streets, storm sewers, the dam, parks, playgrounds and other City property.

Requirements

  • One (1) year experience serving in a Maintenance I, Parks & Streets position with the City of Anoka or equivalent position with another municipality, county or state agency, or equivalent experience.
  • Two (2) years employment experience performing manual labor tasks in a similar paid employment working situation, including turf and parks maintenance, street maintenance and/or irrigation systems.
  • Two (2) years employment experience operating a skid steer. Experience must be within the past (12) months.
  • Employment experience operating a single-axel or tandem axel truck. Experience must be within the past (12) months.
  • Previous employment experience in snowplowing with various types of equipment.
  • Must receive passing score on the City’s Maintenance II Operator Skills Test for Skid Steer and Front-End Loader.
  • Valid MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement. License must be valid without restrictions and must have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Pre-employment drug screen prior to starting employment.
  • Able to meet standard background and criminal check.
  • Medical evaluation authorized for the job.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, with or without special accommodations.
  • Met standard performance rating.
  • Met standard attendance record.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of equipment such as skid-steer, paint striper, zero-turn mower, power tamper, walk-behind concrete/blacktop saw.
  • Install/fix irrigation lines, catch basins, street signs and blacktop patching.
  • Operate snow removal equipment such as MT trackless, tractor with out-front plow/blower, and pick-up with articulating V-plow.
  • Routine maintenance in parks and on streets, storm sewers, and dam.
  • Athletic field/facilities maintenance including set-up, striping/layout, game preparations, i.e., softball, football, lacrosse, skating.
  • Assist with cemetery maintenance activities including open/close graves, lift markers, mulch leaves.
  • Tree removal, trimming, planting, and landscape maintenance.
  • Other Public Services maintenance tasks as assigned, particularly in emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules.
  • Meet all requirements and perform all functions of Maintenance I with limited supervision.
  • Basic mechanical ability to operate a wide variety of equipment, i.e., skid-steer, paint striper, power tamper, chain saws, zero-turn mowers, blacktop roller, etc.
  • Ability to drive vehicles with various types of transmission, based on department vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of storm sewer, parks and street maintenance.
  • Experience operating snow removal equipment such as MT trackless, walk-behind snowblower, tractor with out-front blower or broom and pick-up with articulating V-plow.
  • Must meet required hours of schooling and training to keep water and collections license(s) current.
  • Must work scheduled hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to assume standby (on-call) or call-in status when Supervisor determines necessity and capability to perform.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must wear safety equipment as required and follow established safety practices and procedures.
  • Creates a favorable image of the City in contacts with the Public, Elected Officials and other Organizations.
  • Keeps Public Services Direct or Supervisor informed by any development which he/she may need to know to function effectively.
  • Effective communication with supervisor and coworkers.
  • Must exercise initiative, discretion and independent use of judgment over matters of non-significance.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent and/or as assigned. by the Public Services Director or Supervisor, or other designated individual.
  • May provide work direction and/or training to Maintenance I and seasonal employees as directed.
