About The Position

The City of Anoka is seeking candidates for a full-time Maintenance I, Parks & Streets position. This role is responsible for performing routine maintenance on streets, storm sewers, the dam, parks, playgrounds, and other City property. Requirements

  • One (1) year employment experience performing labor tasks in a similar work situation, including use of ballfield drag, power tamper, chainsaw/chipper, zero turn mower, paint striper, skid steer.
  • One (1) year employment experience performing manual labor tasks in a similar working situation, including turf maintenance, landscaping, street maintenance and/or irrigation systems.
  • Employment experience in operation and backing of a pickup plus a trailer, 1-ton truck with a dump box within the past twelve (12) months.
  • Must work scheduled hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to assume standby (on-call) or call-in status when Supervisor determines necessity and capability to perform.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must wear safety equipment as required and follow established safety practices and procedures.
  • Effective communication with supervisor and coworkers.
  • Must exercise initiative, discretion and independent use of judgment over matters of non-significance.
  • Basic mechanical ability to operate a wide variety of equipment, i.e., paint striper, power tamper, chain saws, construction equipment, zero-turn mowers, etc.
  • Must hold a MN CDL Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement, or ability to obtain within (6) months & prior to advancing to Maintenance II position.
  • Driver’s License must be valid without restrictions and must have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Able to meet standard background and criminal check.
  • Pass a medical evaluation authorized for the job.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, with or without special accommodations.
  • Met standard performance rating in current/most recent job.
  • Met standard attendance record in current/most recent job.

Nice To Haves

  • Employment experience with a Municipality, County or State in a similar position.
  • Current Herbicide/Fungicide applicators license.
  • Current Arborist/Forestry/Horticulture education or experience.
  • Landscape construction experience.
  • Trade skills (plumbing, carpentry, welding, concrete, etc.).
  • Heavy equipment operation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on streets, storm sewers, the dam, parks, playgrounds, and other City properties.
  • Operate equipment such as skid-steer, paint striper, zero-turn mower, power tamper, and walk-behind concrete/blacktop saw.
  • Install and repair irrigation lines, catch basins, street signs, and perform blacktop patching.
  • Operate snow removal equipment including MT trackless, walk-behind snowblower, and pick-up with articulating V-plow.
  • Conduct routine maintenance in parks and on streets, storm sewers, and the dam.
  • Perform athletic field/facilities maintenance, including set-up, striping/layout, and game preparations for sports like softball, football, lacrosse, and skating.
  • Engage in cemetery maintenance activities such as opening/closing graves and lifting markers.
  • Perform other maintenance tasks as assigned, especially in emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads.
  • Work scheduled hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Provide work direction and/or training to seasonal employees as directed.
