About The Position

Under general supervision, this position exists to perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled street maintenance and repair duties for the City of Canon City. Essential duties and responsibilities listed are central to the job or are the reason the position exists, and the employee must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Requirements

One (1) year of experience in construction, general laborer, agriculture, or related field.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Colorado Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of employment.
Valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License, with Tanker Endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of hire.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.

Nice To Haves

Two (2) years of experience in construction.
Two (2) years of experience in equipment operation.
Valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License, with Tanker Endorsement.
Flagger Certification.

Responsibilities

Assists with street patching, crack filling, street construction, bridge repair, concrete removal, dirt removal, curb/gutter/sidewalk construction, road grading, right-of-way maintenance, cleaning ditches, culvert maintenance, material hauling, de-icing, and snow plowing.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment, including cleaning.
Performs related maintenance duties such as clearing brush, controlling weeds, pruning trees and shrubs, removing litter and trash, concrete work, and sweeping streets and gutters as required.
Answers questions from the public regarding streets.
Performs traffic control in and around work zones.
Provides excellent customer service to external and internal customers including but not limited to effectively listening and communicating, providing accurate information, offering solutions, assisting in resolution, and ensuring timely follow up as needed.
Participates in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekends.
Performs duties such as street patching, crack filling, street construction, concrete removal, curb/gutter/sidewalk construction, road grading, right-of-way maintenance, cleaning ditches, culvert maintenance, material hauling, de-icing, and snow plowing.
