Maintenance Helper - Crush/Convey
About The Position
The Maintenance Helper supports safe maintenance and repair of heavy equipment at Freeport-McMoRan’s Sierrita operation, located about 20 miles from Tucson, Arizona. The role assists Journeyman Mechanics with maintenance work and preventive maintenance, troubleshoots equipment problems, completes work orders and other maintenance documentation, and performs housekeeping and work-area checks. The helper may also operate forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment, and may perform other duties as required. Candidates must be able to understand and communicate work and safety instructions in English, complete applicable academic and practical competencies, and demonstrate the required aptitude. A written assessment may be required. Candidates may need to pass a medical exam and all required training or testing. The operation runs 24/7, 365 days a year, and employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shifts other than day shift. This position is not eligible for immigration work visa sponsorship.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English.
- Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
- Must complete required academic and practical competencies, including applicable Line of Progression requirements for internal employees, and demonstrate the required aptitude.
- Must demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills and pass a written assessment where required.
- May be required to pass a medical exam.
- Must pass all required training and/or testing.
- May be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shifts other than day shift.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
Responsibilities
- Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, including haul trucks, water trucks, rubber-tire and track dozers, front-end loaders, and motor graders.
- Assist Journeyman Mechanics with maintenance activities on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives, and other heavy equipment systems.
- Assist with and perform preventive maintenance activities on heavy equipment.
- Complete work orders and other maintenance documentation.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Perform housekeeping duties and work-area checks.
- May operate forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
