About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Corrections, specifically the Louisiana State Penitentiary, is seeking a Maintenance Foreman. This role involves supervising and coordinating maintenance personnel to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of facility maintenance activities within a correctional environment. The Maintenance Foreman will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of buildings, equipment, and infrastructure. Key duties include assigning and inspecting work, ensuring compliance with safety standards and departmental policies, maintaining work orders and records, and coordinating projects with institutional staff to support daily operations. The position requires strong leadership, organizational, and technical skills, along with the ability to supervise maintenance personnel and work effectively in a structured and secure environment.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
  • Two years of the required experience must have been on-the-job experience.
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
  • Authorization for HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact previous employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and coordinating maintenance personnel.

  • Engaging in and/or supervising skilled inmate craftsmen in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, masonry, and refrigeration tasks.
  • Performing repairs and installations of electrical systems, plumbing fixtures, carpentry structures, welding projects, masonry work, and refrigeration systems.
