About The Position

Under general direction, the Maintenance Engineer performs and supervises general maintenance and custodial duties related to the cleaning, maintenance, alteration, and repair of City buildings and grounds. This role involves performing general maintenance and repairs of power, heating, and cooling systems, equipment, fixtures, furniture, building structures, and machinery. It also includes scheduling, performing, and overseeing preventive maintenance, maintaining building grounds, preparing requisition requests for supplies and services, and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies. The position requires extensive knowledge of operational systems and general maintenance, the ability to operate standard tools and equipment, identify malfunctions and take corrective action, and communicate effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in building and grounds maintenance and repair.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Extensive knowledge of operational systems and general maintenance.
  • Ability to operate standard tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to identify the source of malfunctions and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must successfully pass all applicable pre-hire requirements, including a written Civil Service exam, background check, physical and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, perform, and oversee preventive maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance of building grounds.
  • Prepare requisition requests for the purchase of equipment, services, and supplies.
  • Maintain the inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
