About The Position

Under the daily supervision of the Facilities Manager and general direction of the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Engineer / Painter performs skilled painting, finishing, surface preparation, drywall repair, maintenance, repair, inspection, testing, installation, and preventive maintenance activities on healthcare facility buildings, infrastructure, utility systems, equipment, and grounds. Responsibilities include maintaining appearance, safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance of healthcare facilities while supporting facility reliability, life safety systems, emergency preparedness, infection prevention practices, and continuous facility operations. The position works independently while utilizing sound judgment and initiative to support a safe, compliant, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position is expected to maintain a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and customer service while performing assigned duties throughout CHN facilities.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED required within 6 months of hire; an associate degree or equivalent is preferred.
• Three (3) years of experience in commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, construction, painting, drywall, or facilities maintenance environments required.
• Experience in a hospital, healthcare, or critical infrastructure environment preferred.
• A valid driver license and current statutory limits of auto insurance are required.
• Knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation methods, coating systems, drywall repair, patching, finishing, and texture application.
• Knowledge of proper handling, storage, and application of paints, stains, coatings, solvents, adhesives, and related materials.
• Ability to select and utilize appropriate painting tools, spray equipment, ladders, scaffolding, and related equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to match existing colors, textures, and finishes while maintaining organizational appearance standards.
• Knowledge of safe operating methods of equipment, tools, and safety regulations used in skilled building maintenance activities.
• Knowledge of basic construction mathematics and measurement techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, instructions, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical documents.
• Ability to utilize common computer applications and work-related software systems, including computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Ability to safely and effectively operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, gauges, and meters used in facility maintenance activities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and respond effectively to routine and emergency maintenance situations.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with patients, visitors, staff, contractors, and vendors.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment while performing assigned duties.
• Ability to learn and apply healthcare-specific safety, infection prevention, life safety, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Must successfully complete on-line Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) training courses 100 & 200 within 90 days of employment with additional FEMA training to be assigned and ongoing.

Nice To Haves

• An associate degree or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in a hospital, healthcare, or critical infrastructure environment preferred.
• Current ASHE Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) 2.0 Qualification preferred.
• Employees who do not possess the qualification at the time of hire must successfully obtain the ASHE ICRA 2.0 Qualification within six (6) months of hire and maintain the qualification thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Operates, monitors, inspects, maintains, and repairs hospital, clinic, utility, life safety, and facility infrastructure systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
• Performs interior and exterior painting, staining, surface preparation, drywall installation and repair, texture matching, finishing, and maintenance of architectural surfaces, wall protection systems, and related facility finishes.
• Completes preventive and corrective maintenance, customer service requests, equipment installations, facility repairs, and project support activities.
• Coordinates specialized contractor services when necessary.
• Performs work in accordance with healthcare regulatory requirements, infection control standards, life safety measures, electrical safety practices, and applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards.
• Responds to facility emergencies, utility failures, fire alarms, code calls, severe weather events, disaster situations, and security-related incidents.
• Participates in fire drills, life safety rounds, and emergency preparedness activities.
• Maintains accurate maintenance, testing, inspection, and work order records within the CMMS; assists with facility improvement projects, contractor oversight, inventory management, and other departmental activities that support organizational goals.
• Performs additional duties as required to support the overall effectiveness of the department and organizational performance in accordance with CHN’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.

Benefits

• Compensation Range: $24.81 - $37.53
• Additional Compensation Differential Opportunities: Licensed Positions: NOC Shift (7:00 PM–7:00 AM): +$3.50/hour. | Weekend Shift (12:00 AM Saturday–11:59 PM Sunday): +$3.00/hour. Non-Licensed Positions: NOC Shift (7:00 PM–7:00 AM): +$3.00/hour. | Weekend Shift (12:00 AM Saturday–11:59 PM Sunday): +$2.00/hour.
