About The Position

HOPES CAP, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to maintain the functionality, safety, and cleanliness of its facilities. The role involves hands-on repairs and preventive maintenance across multiple locations, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, painting, landscaping, and vehicle maintenance. The assistant collaborates with the Facilities team, responds to urgent repair needs, and helps keep properties in good condition year-round. On-call support may be needed, particularly during severe weather or emergencies. The position is based in Somerset, New Jersey, with travel of up to 30%. A post-offer, pre-employment physical examination, TB screen, and background screen including CHRI and CARI checks are required.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Three years of experience in building maintenance or related fields.
Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Basic computer skills to access HOPES email and ESS and maintain communication with the Agency.
Strong skills in electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
Ability to use power tools and maintenance equipment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination, TB screen, and background screen including CHRI and CARI checks.

Responsibilities

Perform general electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and painting repairs.
Conduct regular facility inspections and preventive maintenance across multiple locations.
Assist with outdoor maintenance, including landscaping and snow removal.
Safely and efficiently operate power tools, hand tools, and maintenance equipment.
Perform vehicle maintenance, including tune-ups and fluid checks.
Support emergency and on-call repairs during severe weather conditions.
Collaborate with the Facilities team to help ensure smooth operations.
Be available for on-call assignments, especially during weather-related or emergency situations.
