About The Position

Freedom Behavioral Hospital of Magnolia is currently accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Assistant/Transportation Driver to join our behavioral health team. This dual-role position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, safety, and appearance of the hospital while providing safe and reliable transportation for patients, supplies, and other hospital-related needs. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, customer-service oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Position Summary The Maintenance Assistant/Transportation Driver assists with the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the hospital's buildings, grounds, and equipment while safely transporting patients to and from medical appointments, admissions, discharges, and other approved destinations. This position plays an important role in ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Mississippi driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate hospital vehicles and maintenance equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in hospital, healthcare, or commercial facility maintenance.
  • Experience transporting patients or operating wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or general maintenance certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of life safety, emergency preparedness, and hospital regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance throughout the facility.
  • Complete assigned maintenance work orders promptly.
  • Assist with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building repairs.
  • Repair doors, locks, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and other building components.
  • Assist with painting and minor renovations.
  • Maintain hospital grounds, sidewalks, parking areas, and landscaping.
  • Perform routine inspections of the facility to identify safety concerns.
  • Assist with emergency repairs as needed.
  • Maintain maintenance tools and equipment in safe working order.
  • Assist with room setup and furniture moves.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and disaster response.
  • Assist with weekend safety rounds and on-call responsibilities as assigned.
  • Safely transport patients to and from medical appointments, admissions, discharges, and other approved destinations.
  • Operate hospital vehicles safely and courteously.
  • Assist patients entering and exiting vehicles when appropriate.
  • Secure wheelchairs and mobility equipment according to safety standards.
  • Complete vehicle inspection checklists before and after each trip.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs.
  • Report vehicle maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, fueled, and ready for service.
  • Follow all hospital transportation policies and defensive driving practices.
  • Follow all OSHA, CMS, Joint Commission, and hospital safety requirements.
  • Participate in fire drills, disaster drills, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of infection prevention practices.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials and waste.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries and stocking supplies.
  • Assemble equipment and furniture as needed.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies.
  • Support construction and renovation projects when assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Hospital Administrator.
