About The Position

This position is part of the Government of Canada's Canada Summer Jobs Program. The Maintenance Assistant (Summer Student) will assist with day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of common areas, grounds, parking areas, and other locations as needed. Responsibilities include litter and debris removal, garbage disposal, gardening, checking exterior lighting and doors, assisting with unit turnovers, and supporting special projects like painting and minor repairs. The role requires a commitment to Health & Safety, the ability to follow directions and work independently, strong interpersonal skills, and conscientiousness in meeting deadlines. The position involves working both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in warm and humid conditions.

Requirements

• Must be committed to Health & Safety and complete all mandatory Health & Safety training.
• Be able to follow direction, as well as work independently and take initiative.
• Have strong interpersonal skills, tact and discretion, as well as proven ability to effectively deal with difficult clients.
• Be conscientious in meeting assigned deadlines.
• Have the ability to work inside and outside, also in warm/humid work environment at times.
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
• Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial and territorial legislation and regulations.

Nice To Haves

• Previous cleaning/maintenance/grounds keeping experience is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of the common areas, grounds, underground and surface parking areas and any other locations deemed necessary.
• Pick-up and disposal of litter, debris from the property and underground parking areas.
• Empty garbage cans and move garbage dumpsters back inside.
• Assist with gardening and grounds keeping.
• Check exterior lighting, exit doors and sump pump.
• Assist with turnover of vacant units.
• Assist with special projects, including painting, sealing, appliance delivery, minor general maintenance.
