About The Position

As a Maintenance Area Planner, you will be responsible for the supervision of salaried employees responsible for operations, maintenance and repair of plant equipment. Work requires the ability to make decisions based on established procedure. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Use of independent judgement. Responsible for training others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience in a leadership role
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to coach, collaborate, and drive action across teams.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical concept
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively

  • Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of maintenance and construction standards and codes and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic math including trigonometry
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo.
  • Experience with GMS, TPM, Andon/escalation processes, layered audits, or JIT training.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a small to medium group of salaried maintenance Group Leaders.
  • Lead the maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities aligned with standard GM maintenance systems.
  • Conduct appropriate checks and communicate evaluation of results.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, recommend solutions to problems, and meet schedule and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance planning activities, including shift transition meetings and maintenance/production tie-ins to align priorities and resources.
  • Review, prioritize, and schedule maintenance work in Maximo, including safety and non-safety PM compliance, open requests, and weekend project preparation.
  • Support execution of preventive maintenance, long-term maintenance planning, and continuous improvement plans for the assigned area.
  • Perform layered audits, safety observation tours, WPO walks, and other checks to reinforce safety, standardization, and workplace organization.
  • Participate in safety meetings, problem-solving activities, D2/TIP discussions, glass wall reviews, and GMS board reviews to drive issue resolution and operational performance.
  • Update weekly project assignments, coordinate with group leaders, and coach supervisors to maintain progress and accountability.
  • Review purchasing requests, manage routine administrative needs, and maintain strong communication through email and plant systems.
