About The Position

The Mail Room Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of tasks within the mailroom, including processing, sorting, binding, logging, and delivering mail. This role involves preparing mail packages for shipment, sorting interoffice and regular mail, logging and distributing overnight packages, and maintaining mailroom supply inventories. The clerk will also interact with shipping and receiving vendors and operate various mailroom equipment such as postage meters, mail sorting machines, envelope openers, scanners, mail sealers, and folding machines. Additional duties include attaching filing fees to court documents, performing scanning, binding, and folding projects, attaching checks to outgoing mail, logging certified and returned mail, and affixing and recording postage on registered mail and packages. The position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform its functions, and the clerk will be assigned other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED required
  • 0-2 years of experience in the field, or related area
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Digital dexterity to fold/stuff/seal large numbers of letters
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to carry up to 20 pounds
  • Responsible individual who can work both independently and in a team environment
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with basic office hardware such as scanners, fax machine, copiers, etc.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and dependability
  • Must be able to work occasional Saturdays when required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Process, sort, bind, log and deliver mail
  • Prepare mail packages for shipment
  • Sort interoffice and regular mail by department or individual
  • Log and distribute overnight packages
  • Maintain mailroom supply inventories
  • Interact with shipping and receiving vendors
  • Operate mailroom equipment such as postage meters, mail sorting machines, envelope openers, scanners, mail sealers, and folding machines
  • Attach filing fees to court documents
  • Perform scanning, binding, and folding as well as copy and fax projects
  • Attach checks to outgoing mail
  • Log certified mail
  • Log returned mail
  • Affix and record postage on registered mail and packages
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform functions of the job
  • All other duties as assigned
