About The Position

Join our Test Engineering Fabrication team as a Mechanical Fabricator supporting the development and build of mission-critical test equipment. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for manufacturing, modifying, and assembling mechanical components used in complex electrical test systems that support a variety of defense programs. You will work in a machine shop environment producing custom metal parts and modifying purchased hardware to meet engineering requirements. This role requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, select appropriate fabrication methods, and execute work with a high level of precision and quality. Work may include machining, drilling, tapping, cutting, fitting, and mechanical assembly of components that integrate into larger test systems. In addition to fabrication, you will support troubleshooting, rework, and continuous improvement efforts. You will collaborate closely with engineers, planners, and electrical fabrication teams to ensure components meet design intent and are delivered on schedule. You will also participate in fabrication verification activities and document build processes and lessons learned through Post Fab Build Files to support repeatability and efficiency. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in craftsmanship, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-focused environment where quality and accountability are critical to success.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a machine shop or mechanical fabrication environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with common fabrication and machining operations such as drilling, tapping, cutting, deburring, and assembly.
  • Familiarity with standard shop tools and equipment (e.g., drill press, band saw, hand tools, measuring instruments).
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of precision, attention to detail, and quality workmanship.
  • Experience using basic measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, scales) to verify part accuracy.
  • Ability to follow established processes, procedures, and safety requirements in a lab or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to support troubleshooting and rework activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with engineers, planners, and technicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating manual machining equipment (e.g., lathe, mill) for fabrication of custom parts.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute fabrication tasks, including selecting appropriate tools, materials, and methods.
  • Experience working in a low-volume, high-mix production environment (prototype or custom builds).
  • Familiarity with mechanical assembly of complex systems and integration with electrical components.
  • Experience modifying or adapting purchased hardware to meet engineering requirements.
  • Strong understanding of fit, form, and function in mechanical design and fabrication.
  • Experience supporting troubleshooting and root cause analysis during build and integration.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Experience creating or contributing to build documentation, work instructions, or lessons learned.
  • Familiarity with quality standards and inspection practices, including working with inspectors.
  • Experience working in a regulated or compliance-driven environment (e.g., aerospace, defense, medical).
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to take initiative and drive tasks to completion.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
