About The Position

Machinist Position Summary Work Schedule: Standard Hours; Monday through Friday 100% on-site Join Catalent’s flagship softgel development and manufacturing facility in North America, located in St. Petersburg, FL, with a capacity of 18 billion capsules per year. The Machinist plays a critical role in preparing and maintaining precision tooling for soft gelatin manufacturing equipment, including dies, wedges, pumps, and valves. They review blueprints and specifications to plan and execute machining processes, ensuring each component meets exact quality and accuracy standards. This role also supports production readiness by maintaining cGMP documentation and completing preventative maintenance work within a regulated pharmaceutical environment. The Role Operate CNC mills, lathes, grinders, band saws, and other shop equipment to fabricate precision parts for the encapsulation process. Prepare die blanks by installing bushings and grinding to specification using OD grinders. Machine, inspect, coat (Teflon), and verify wedges and distributor plates to meet required tolerances. Grind and lap medicine pumps and shut-off valves to ensure proper function and accuracy. Assemble mechanical components related to production equipment, including medicine pumps and encapsulation tooling. Fabricate miscellaneous parts to support Production and R&D needs. Perform preventative maintenance on shop equipment and ensure compliance with cGMP standards. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a machinist apprenticeship with at least 5 years of related experience OR trade school graduate in machining or related field with at least 10 years of recent experience OR at least 15 years of recent, documented related experience.
  • Must own and maintain appropriate machinist tools.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk regularly and lift up to 50 pounds (no lifting over 44.09 pounds without assistance).
  • Ability to access the manufacturing floor and office environments and operate standard office equipment.
  • Vision requirements include reading written documents and performing detailed visual inspections.
